A Mutual Non-Chaining Defense and Optional Aggression Pact, or MnDoAP, is characterized by a defense clause which requires its signatories to defend one another in the event of an attack, only if that attack is direct and unprovoked. The "Non-Chaining" aspect of the treaty refers to the non-obligation for alliances to defend one another if one is attacked as retaliation from declaring war on a third party; however, it is usually still encouraged. Additionally, they contain clauses which warrant an optional ability for each alliance to join the other in attacking a third party.
