Jacob Knox is the absolute monarch ruling over the Federation of Knox. He values intellect, loyalty, honesty, and the sanctity of OPSEC.
History[]
Era of Isolationism (Sept. 29th, 2020 – Oct. 8th, 2020)[]
For the first week or so, Jacob naively attempted to be independent of any alliance, which naturally resulted in being raided semi-frequently. One such raid would connect him with a likeminded individual, Joros Corinsol of Mythlandia who had created an alliance devoted to pacifism called the United Federation of Canerica. Notably during this era, Jacob was a member of Error 404 for 24 hours before leaving due to being unsatisfied with the tax policy.
Era of Pacifism (Oct. 8th, 2020 – Mar. 2nd, 2021)[]
After connecting with Joros, Jacob became Suprevice President (Second in Command) of the United Federation of Canerica. During his four months in that position, he was primarily in charge of Foreign Affairs (FA) and Internal Affairs (IA) but also generally assisted Joros with Military Affairs (MA) and Economic Affairs (EA) as needed. During this time, the alliance experienced adequate growth by gaining allies in the micro community, becoming visible to a handful of macros, and ultimately achieving Top 75 status.
The Coal Mines (TCM) and Crusaders of the Holy Boogaloo (CHB)[]
Some time during October, Jacob ended up reaching out to Eligos of Monica Republic since they were, at the time, leader of a one person alliance. This led to Eligos connecting him with Nokia Rokia who was leader of TCM at the time and Jack Rackham who was leader of CHB at the time. TCM and CHB extended protectorate treaties to the United Federation of Canerica, but this would not last long due to Joros being unwilling to budge on the alliance's stances on pacifism and NAP treaties.
The Nova Roma Crisis and the End of the Era of Pacifism[]
On March 2nd, 2021, Nova Roma blitzed the United Federation of Canerica and caught the alliance completely off guard. Joros and Jacob swiftly tried to organize and militarize the alliance with the intention of fighting Nova Roma to conclusion. After the initial moments, Jacob thought this was a good time to introduce the alliance on the Forums and posted what was meant to be a combined Declaration of Existence (DoE) and Recognition of Hostilities (RoH) declaring the alliance's existence and stating that it would fight Nova Roma to the last pixel if it had to without involving its M-level and O-level allies. However, the post was accidentally mislabeled as a Declaration of War (DoW) by Jacob, which led to heavy ridicule from the community and even some attacks from Nova Roma's allies in The Lost Empire as a DoW technically gave them valid reason to come to Nova Roma's "protection." Completely disheartened by this mishap, Jacob urged Joros to take the rest of the alliance and leave him alone to "go down with the ship" claiming that he would not leave or disband the alliance. The post was later hidden by Forum staff at Jacob's request due to the backlash from the community.
Era of Aurorian Fidelity (Mar. 2nd, 2021 – Mar. 1st, 2024)[]
One of the macros that Jacob had connected with during his four months in the United Federation of Canerica was Aurora, primarily Rainbow and ToxicPepper. Within four hours of the United Federation of Canerica functionally disbanding, Rainbow convinced Jacob to join Aurora instead of simply giving up on Politics and War due to a single mistake. As such, Jacob disbanded the alliance (again, receiving much ridicule for the decision due to prior statements) and joined Aurora on March 2nd, 2021. At the time, Jacob was only intending on being in Aurora for about one to two months before rejoining Joros in his next alliance. In that time, he learned more about the various departments from their respective heads at the time: Foreign Affairs (FA) from Y-zard, Internal Affairs (IA) from George Putin, and Military Affairs (MA) from CholanK before being given a role in the low government of Aurora as an Officer of the newly created Propaganda Bureau on March 23rd, 2021. After that, he decided to stay.
Climbing the Ranks[]
On April 4th, 2021, Jacob was quickly promoted to Service Coordinator (mid government) of Propaganda Bureau due to his hard work and dedication. During his time in the PB, he created monthly and weekly newsletters of the happenings in Aurora, created and ran a lottery for the alliance, and created badges for government members. However, on September 16th, 2021, he was moved to Service Coordinator of Military Affairs (MA) where he managed counters, trained lower members of government, and helped teach cadets. He was even briefly given the title of Head of Academy Guard from January 10th, 2022 to January 21st 2022 during a time when Aurora was increasingly assigning government members to specifically handle affairs in its training alliance, Borealis. Then, on January 21st, 2022, Jacob was promoted to Chairman of Military Affairs (MA) after SlyWolf21, the previous Chairman, left the alliance. As Chairman, he grew the department, trained incoming and current government members more, and revised multiple alliance documents related to the department. Due to real life constraints, Jacob stepped down from his government positions, assigning Bria1814 as his successor, and became an Advisor for Aurora on July 16th, 2022.
On March 16th, 2022, Jacob would jokingly promote himself as "third in command" and dubbed the role subsubaltern. He intended to leave it that way until Kan noticed, but ultimately Alex (who was second in command at the time) had to point it out to Kan and Jacob demoted himself on March 30th, 2022. Period of Inactivity[]
For almost a year following his resignation, Jacob would be incredibly inactive in-game and in the Discord. This inactivity primarily stemmed from his real life obligations such as work and college. It was to the point that he even entered Vacation Mode towards the end of Ragnarök on May 6th, 2023 when he was not involved in any wars.
Return to Government[]
At the end of the summer, around August or September of 2023, Jacob would become active again and start helping Aurora with miscellaneous tasks across departments such as server maintenance, conducting interviews, negotiating peace for raids, etc. On October 9th, 2023, Jacob would accept a position as Service Coordinator of Foreign Affairs (FA) under then-Chairman Yassin Hakim marking his official return to government. In this role, he primarily cared for and maintained Aurora's foreign affairs server on Discord, but would also deal with petty negotiations related to raids and reparations while seeking to improve relations with other alliances.
Merge with Carthago[]
On January 20th, 2024, Jacob would catch wind that Aurora and Carthago had been in talks of merging for roughly a year and was later trusted with confirmation that the merge was occurring 10 days prior. Due to his values of loyalty and security/privacy, he did not share this information with anyone until the merge happened.
Era of The Horizon (Mar. 1st, 2024 - Present)[]
Following the merge of Aurora and Carthago to form Event Horizon, Jacob maintained his position in government (along with most others) and became an Enlightened of Chaos (FA). In this role, he continues to maintain the foreign affairs server and deal with minor raids but also now serves as a liaison and mentor for the Federated States of Orbis as part of Event Horizon's Stellar Initiative Program.
Community Involvement[]
Jacob is a sporadically active member of the community involved with the QA and API Teams. He is also known as one of the more active members of the community on the Forums where he is currently an Exalted Member (7/8) in the top 2% of users with over 1,000 posts, approximately 1,500 reputation, 12 days won, and 2 badges.[1] He aims to earnestly and honestly break into the Forum leaderboards for either reputation or posts some day and climb its ranks.
Quality Assurance (QA) Team[]
Jacob was added to the QA team in March of 2022 and has helped test multiple updates, but his only contribution worth noting so far has been getting Alex to agree to increase the color bloc bonus with his suggestion.[2]
API Team[]
In January of 2023, Jacob was added to Politics and War's API Team. His notable contributions to the team include:
- Improving documentation on the Playground and annotating the majority of fields
- Authoring a Wiki article about v3 of the API titled "API v3 (GraphQL)"
- Implementing and improving multiple filters
- Creating and publishing an API roadmap on Trello
- Adding bulletins, their replies, and relevant fields and filters
Organizations[]
- Clarent News Network - Jacob was briefly a reporter for CNN before being fired for pinging everyone. During his time with CNN, he published the piece "Pirating According to Pirates."
- Happy Incorporated - Jacob was also briefly a reporter for Happy Incorporated where he published the pieces "Some Etiquette for the Forums" and "Merging Micros: The ICSA."
- Knox News Corner - Jacob started his own news server on April 12th, 2022 that never really went anywhere due to inactivity and inability to recruit staff.[3]
- Orbis Society of Scholars - Jacob announced an initiative to engage in scholarly activities in the community on November 1st, 2023 that has been largely inactive since.[4]
- Your Orbis Media - Jacob was added as a reporter for YOM on April 3rd, 2024.
